There is theory that Legend of dragon in Korea was delivered form the china in ancient times. This legend was combined with the existing Totem religion. It have influenced to Korean people since the period of the Three States.
Dragon described differently throughout the ages as a symbol the god with almighty powers and religion. Like this the formed dragon had different dignity and specialty from Chinese. It became into the general believes and life.
In general concept, the West culture think the dragons should be killed, the East culture think the dragons as the spiritual and supernatural existence, and the inner meaning is being adopted into many various product of art within its character of molding.
The pieces of art are the combination of the spirit, the culture and the personal experience of that generation. It has its own distinctive value of beauty. There are many different forms of that.
The purpose of this research is looking through the symbolized meaning and character of dragon by theoretic analysis. Seeing the Arts sculptures that symbolized the dragon find the way to use the symbolized dragon into ceramics art pieces.
In the first chapter, find the general concept of dragon and its origin with documentary survey. It also includes the psychological mind of human who are making the dragon symbolized and god.
In the second chapter, Making standards of Korean people's the dragon religion showed from the first chapter, Examine the artistic character of the art pieces of Korea, and remind the meanings that are inner-exist in the pottery so suggesting the enlarging the types of ceramic art pieces.
In the third chapter, with the ways of approach from the above this researcher studied the possibility of ceramic art piece with the image of combination of the dragon's physical shape and subjective image.
용신사상(龍神思想)은 중국으로부터 일찍이 우리나라에 전래되었다고 하는데, 이는 기존의 토템과 결합하여 삼국 시대이래로 한국인의 삶과 정신세계에 지대한 영향을 끼쳤으며, 신적 위력을 지닌 신수(聖獸)로서 절대 권력과 신앙의 대상으로 그 형태가 시대에 따라 다양하게 변모해 왔다.
이처럼 정형화된 용은 중국과는 다른 권위와 풍토적 특성을 갖추고 보편적인 신앙과 생활로 존재하게 되었다. 일반적인 경향으로 서양에서는 용을 극복되거나 퇴치되어야 할 부정적 상징으로, 동양에서는 영적이고 초자연적인 존재로 신성시되며, 그 내재된 의미는 조형적 특성에 근거하여 다양한 유형의 예술작품으로 차용되고 상징화된다. 예술작품은 그 시대의 정신배경사상과 문화적 요인 및 개인적 체험에 의해 융합되어 나타나는 결정체(結晶體)로서 나름대로의 미적 가치를 지니고 표현양상을 달리하게 된다.
본 연구의 목적은 이러한 이론적 분석에 의한 용의 특질과 상징적 의미를 고찰하고, 용을 상징차용한 미술품들을 통해 깊이 있는 미의식과 조형성을 인지하여 현대적 미감으로 이어질 수 있는 도자 작품으로서의 가능성을 모색하는데 있다.
1장에서는 전반적인 용관념의 형성 배경을 문헌고찰에 기초하여 그 기원을 살펴보고, 용을 신격시하고 상징화시키는 과정에서 도출되는 인간의 심리를 살펴보았다.
2장에서는 1장에서 얻어진 한민족의 용신숭배사상을 기점으로 하여, 한국 용 미술품에 표현된 미학적 특성을 살펴보고, 기(器)형태 안에 내재된 의미를 상기함으로써 다양한 도자작품으로의 유형확대를 조망해보았다.
3장에서는 앞의 접근방식에 의해서 드러난 용형의 실체에 본 연구자의 관심사와 주관적 이미지를 결부시켜 도자작품으로서의 가능성을 연구하였다.
