  • The 21st century is expected to be an era in which the generation and utilization of diverse kinds of information plays an essential role in sustaining a society.
Like other branches of human lives, the program of rehabilitation and vocational education curing purpose for the disabled must develop for the better, if necessary with change.
One's ability for work can not be measured soly by his or her physical conditions since a great number of work require various abilities and skills.
Even though the disabled may have some handicaps physically, they still can take part in the ordinary social life, e.g. by acquiring computer skill or through internet. The traditional programs for rehabilitation and vocational education for the disable are increasingly facing problems because of rapid changes in society and modes of human life. An ability disorder and declining ability disorder are also suffering more form the difficulties that prohibit them form acquiring proper experience and exercises, so that they feel ever more isolated and frustrated since their physical conditions allow them limited abilities. In order to solve these problems, we should endeavor to develop new program, which can answer to the various needs of the disabled by searching for diverse possibilities. The purpose of this study is to probe the past presence and future of the rehabilitation education and to consider the case of ceramic art as a new possible form for such educational purpose for the disabled.
Despite the complicated nature of the processes involved, the ceramic art can be useful for a healing purpose of the disabled and serve as a form of program for vocational education for the disabled. Clay is a material that is easy to use since it sticks to and comes off from an object easily. Besides users can gradually acquire creativity and self respect through the process of correction working with it. Moreover the ceramic art can also contribute to supporting the livelihood for the disabled financially. In spite of these advantages, however the prospect of the ceramic art as a form of new possibility for the disabled is not entirely bright. In general, ceramic products are regarded as having little value in economic terms in many centers for rehabilitation since those are the products of a declining industry. Nevertheless there are still some organizations that recognize the potential value of the ceramic art and these organizations are studying the ways of developing and utilizing it. What seems to be a turning point in future for ceramic art as a form that serves for the disabled is whether potential for such purpose can be recognized and drew sufficient investment in the R & D (Research and develop) to manufacture ceramic products. In the first session, we will invest general definition of disabled and rehabilitation. In the second session, we will invest definition and merit of ceramic rehabilitation. In the third session, we will investigate present condition of rehabilitation center and make proposal. In the forth session, we will propose improvement of ceramic rehabilitation.
