“I am once again making a series of vessels in the simplest of shapes: the cylinder, a harmonious, precise and neutral form. A shape I have been going to and from since 2000, always returning with new curiosity, surprised that it has so many faces, new elegance or new unseen disharmonies, depending of how I proportion the opening and the height of the work. Often I make many of the same size, because the same size can change radically to the eye depending of what kind of colour and surface the glaze builds up. I let the glazes invade the simplicity by a chaotic surface in all varieties and textures. I see this group as a hymn to all vessels made before me. I find great joy in the ceramic history which is a rich source of inspiration, and a history to comment upon. It is a love story that grows along with my passion for clay and glaze, and the infinite possibilities I keep discovering in this amazing material. Beauty is my aim in all my vessels, but I try to challenge my own preconceived ideas of what is good or bad. Every work must contain both.” 저는 다시금 가장 단순한 형태의 그릇 시리즈를 만들고 있습니다. 조화롭고 정밀하며 중립적인 형태인 실린더 형태로. 2000년대부터 그랬지만 앞으로도 이 실린더 형태를 새로운 호기심으로 바라 보게 될것입니다. 열린 부분(입구 부분)과 높이에 따라 보여지는 수많은 모습과 새로운 우아함 혹은 보이지 않았던 비조화적인 모습에 놀랍니다. 종종 같은 크기의 그릇을 많이 만드는데, 이것은 색에 따라, 표면의 유약처리 방식에 따라 완전히 다른 모습을 보여주기 때문입니다. 저는 유약들이 이 단순한 형태를 다양한 질감으로 표현된 혼돈 상태의 표면 위로 침범하도록 놔둡니다. 저는 이 작품군을 제 이전에 만들어진 그릇들의 찬송가로 생각합니다. 저는 영감을 가져다 주는 풍부한 자료이면서 코멘트를 달 수 있는 도예 역사에서 큰 즐거움을 찾습니다. 그것(역사)은 무한한 가능성이며, 이 놀랍고 흥미로운 재료들로부터 발굴해내는 유약과 흙에 대한 열정과 함께 피어나는 사랑이야기와 같습니다. 아름다움은 제 그릇의 목표이지만 무엇이 좋고 나쁜지에 대한 선입관에 대한 도전이기도 합니다. 모든 작품은 두가지면을 가지고 있어야합니다. 사진 출처: http://espersen.nu/ |
